Youth Initiatives

Youth activities are promoted through the Marshfield News-Herald .

The Marshfield Area Youth Initiatives Group (YI), consists of youth representing both the private and public schools in Marshfield. The YI group formed in June of 2010. In the summer of 2010, youth developed actions plans to implement youth led activities during in the school year.

2010-11 highlights are as follows:

  • October 13, 2010 – Participation in a Day of Kindness at Marshfield Senior High and Columbus High School by serving cappuccino and hot chocolate.

  • November 2010 – Participation in the Drop It Like It's Hot campaign promoting the cellular phone texting ban going in to effect for the state of Wisconsin. T-shirts were sold and the project was featured in the Marshfield News Herald and on Channel 7 News.

  • April 2011 – Participation in the implementation of the Parents Who Host Lose the Most campaign material distribution and human billboard display at Marshfield Senior High. Almost 70 volunteers participated in the human billboard to kick off the campaign.

  • April 2011 – Assisted Marshfield Police Department with National Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Take-Back Event on April 30, 2011 to collect unwanted and unused medications.

Youth who are interested in joining may apply here.

Youth who apply are encouraged to attend the day retreat on August 3-4, 2011 to plan the 2011-12 school year action plan. 2011-12 priorities are: underage drinking, prescription drug abuse, distracted/drugged driving and bullying.
